The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the latest flagship from Samsung, which doubles as a replacement for its predecessor and the Samsung Galaxy Notes series.
There simply isn’t a more powerful phone on the market, with its superfast performance and best in class cameras, all while managing more than a day of battery usage.
Display
The huge 6.8 inch panel covers the entire front of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, with a display that wraps around the sides for a bezel-less appearance. The incredibly high 1440 x 3088 pixels resolution delivers 500 pixels per inch, for one of the sharpest displays on the market right now. Coupled with Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, there simply isn’t a phone with a better display. With a peak brightness of 1750 nits, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra can show astonishingly vibrant colours.
Performance
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra continues its tradition as being the most powerful phone produced by the Korean company, and the fastest amongst its competitors.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the latest flagship processor from Qualcomm, for blazing fast performance. The UK and European models will ship with the Exynos 2200 instead, which delivers identical performance and power efficiency.
As for storage and memory, there are several different variants. The base model will come with 128GB storage and 8GB memory. The other 3 models will come with 12GB memory:
- 128GB storage, 8GB memory
- 256GB storage, 12GB memory
- 512GB storage, 12GB memory
- 1TB storage, 12GB memory
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a total of 4 powerful cameras, with performance that crowns the S22 Ultra as the best camera on a smartphone right now.
The main camera has a massive 108 MP wide shooter, for one of the largest sensors ever made for a phone. There’s a single 12 MP ultrawide camera, and dual 10MP telephoto cameras.
The large sensor means the S22 Ultra can capture 8K video, for excellent detail, clarity and stabilisation.
The front also features a large 40 MP wide selfie camera.
Operating System
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra ships with the latest Android 12. Samsung have recently promised that all their flagship phones will receive a minimum of 4 major Android updates, followed by an additional year of security updates. This should significantly extend the longevity of the S22 Ultra, meaning the final version the phone will receive is Android 16 (presumably in 2025).
Design
Unlike the previous Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, the S22 Ultra looks more like a Galaxy Note device with a radical new design.
The curved panel wraps around the front of the phone, for zero bezels around the sides. Samsung have also managed to remove the traditional camera bump from the back of the phone, for a device that can lay perfectly flat.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a more squared off design compared to the regular S22 and S22+ variants. Regardless, it still looks like a premium phone, with a subtle reflective finish.
Battery life
As the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is intended to be a replacement for the Galaxy Note series, it’s no surprise the S22 Ultra has incredible battery life. The large 5000mAh battery can deliver up to 2 days of battery life, even under heavy demand. Despite the power hungry processor, the S22 Ultra simply refuses to give in.
Colours
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will come in 7 colours. Some colours may not be available in certain markets:
- Burgundy
- Graphite
- Green
- Phantom Black
- Red
