giffgaff reduces price of unlimited data plan to £25

giffgaff have announced a price reduction for their 18 month unlimited data plan, from £35 to £25 per month.

The price reduction will take effect from today, for all new and existing customers. giffgaff says there are currently 12,000 existing customers on this plan, and they will all immediately benefit from the £10 price reduction.

In addition, giffgaff also reaffirmed their commitment to fixed prices, with no mid-contract rises for any of their plans, regardless of contract length. Customers on 18 month contracts can also switch their plan mid-contract at any time, even if they opt for a cheaper plan.

For those who don’t want a long term contract, giffgaff still have their existing 30-day rolling unlimited data plan for £35 per month. Unfortunately, there’s no price reduction for this particular plan, or any other of their existing plans.

Although advertised as unlimited data, customers must still adhere to the fair usage policy, which states that you cannot use 650GB data per month, twice within a 6 month period.

We should note that iD Mobile, Talkmobile and SMARTY all offer a similar unlimited data 1 month rolling plan for £16 per month. So while the price reduction from giffgaff is welcome, they still don’t offer the best value for money when compared to competing budget-friendly MVNOs.

giffgaff currently offers 1 month rolling plans, 18 month contracts and pay as you go plans. giffgaff’s pay as you go plans are similar to their 1 month rolling plans, except they’re slightly more expensive and don’t automatically renew.

giffgaff were once the leading network for budget friendly plans, but this simply is no longer true - something we were particularly critical of in our recent review. As an MVNO and subsidiary brand of O2, we’re not so sure who giffgaff’s target audience is right now. They don’t have a particularly intriguing selling point in today’s market.
