Xiaomi has announced their latest flagship phone, the Xiaomi 12 Pro, alongside 2 other phones in the series - the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12X.

Although the previous Xiaomi 11 Pro was well received, it did not see a UK release, and was mainly confined to the Chinese market. However, Xiaomi will begin an aggressive worldwide marketing campaign for the Xiaomi 12 Pro, with an expected April release in the UK.

Like most recent Android flagship phones, the Xiaomi 12 Pro will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This is the same chip as used with the Oppo Find X5 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22.

Xiaomi 12 Pro display

Initially, the Xiaomi 12 Pro will launch with 256GB storage, however there will be 8GB and 12GB RAM variants to choose from. We expect Xiaomi to launch more storage variants at a later date, especially given that there's no microSD card. As for colours, there will be three finishes: grey, blue and purple.

The screen will feature a 6.7" WQHD+ AMOLED panel, with LTPO technology for a variable refresh rate between 10 - 120Hz. The display will wrap around the length of the device, which is reminiscent of older Samsung Galaxy phones. Resolution is very high at 3,200 x 1,440 pixels.

Xiaomi 12 Pro camera

The standout feature is almost certainly the camera, backed up by the very prominent camera bump. There will be a triple 50 MP camera array, with the main sensor featuring a 50 MP f/1.9 wide lens (Sony IMX707 module), followed by a 50 MP ultra-wide lens and a 50 MP f/1.9 48mm telephoto camera. The cameras will be able to record 8K HDR10+ video.

The selfie camera will feature a 32 MP camera with AI portrait mode, which Xiaomi claims has a 120% improvement for light capturing over its predecessor.

As for power, the phone will include a 4600mAh battery, with 120W fast charging, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging. With the 120W fast charging, Xiaomi claims the phone can charge from an impressive zero to 100% within just 18 minutes. This is considerably faster than the 80W SuperVOOC technology from the Oppo Find X5 Pro, which can only charge to 50% within 12 minutes.

Xiaomi are also throwing in 3 months of YouTube Premium, which will include YouTube Music.

The phone will initially ship with MIUI 13, which is Xiaomi’s version of Android 12. The Xiaomi 12 Pro will receive 3 major Android updates, and 4 years of security updates.

The device will weigh 205g, with 163.60mm x 74.60mm x 8.16mm dimensions. There will also be quad speakers, with an IP68 rating for scratch resistance and waterproofing.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro will be sold in the US for $999, which we estimate will sell for around £899 in the UK. Official pricing will be announced at the April release.
