Oppo’s fastest 150W SuperVOOC technology can charge your phone to 50% in 5 minutes

Oppo’s SuperVOOC technology has delivered some of the fastest charging speeds we’ve seen, with Oppo and OnePlus (Oppo’s sister company) flagship phones.

Now it appears the technology is about to get even faster. With the latest 150W SuperVOOC technology, Oppo claims you will be able to charge your phone from 1% to 50% in an impressive 5 minutes.

These numbers were achieved using a 4500mAh battery from an upcoming Oppo phone, which has yet to be revealed. The technology is currently being demoed at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and will feature in an Oppo phone to be released later this year.

Oppo’s 150W SuperVOOC technology is just under double the current 80W SuperVOOC speed used with current flagship Oppo and OnePlus phones. Unfortunately, it appears the upcoming Oppo Find X5 Pro will just about miss out on the latest speeds, and will be sticking with 80W SuperVOOC - albeit still very fast.

To prevent battery degradation from the fast charging speeds, Oppo will also be introducing its own Battery Health Engine, with a custom chip that can help to optimise battery health. Oppo claims after 1,600 complete charge cycles, the battery still retains 80% of its capacity with its custom technology. This is the same technology as used with the Oppo Find X5 Pro.

To achieve such speeds, Oppo will be shipping a new 150W SuperVOOC charger. By using Gallium nitride (GAN) technology, the charger won’t be any bigger than current chargers, at 58mm x 57mm x 30mm, weighing at just 172g.

Oppo have also revealed an even faster 240W SuperVOOC prototype, which can charge a phone from 1% to 100% in an astonishing 9 minutes. However, the technology is still in the early stages, meaning it may be a few years before we see 240W charging in an actual phone.
