Nokia G21 claims an incredible 3 day battery life

Since its reinvention, Nokia have built a reputation for making niche devices, particularly phones with long-lasting battery life at a low cost.

Despite this, Nokia’s claim that their newest Nokia G21 can reach 3 days of battery life even came at a surprise to us.

With a huge 5050 mAh battery and power efficient processor, Nokia promises you won’t need to charge your phone for up to 3 days with everyday usage.

According to Nokia, their 3 day battery testing involved a diverse range of tasks for 5 hours a day. Testing included gaming, video streaming, calling, internet browsing, music and general app usage.

Device settings were kept on default throughout testing. However, the biggest caveat is the phone was left on standby overnight. What Nokia defines as ‘overnight’ isn’t exactly disclosed - it could possibly be the amount of time outside 5 hours of testing. Regardless, phones generally do not use too much battery power when kept on but not in use, so a more precise testing method will probably have produced negligible differences in results.

The previous Nokia G20 used a MediaTek Helio G35 chip, however with the G21, Nokia have opted for the Unisoc T606. This is an unusual decision, as not many Android devices use Unisoc chips, particularly in the Western market. Nokia claims performance will be as good or better than the G20, however we’ll have to wait for further benchmarks before verifying this claim.

Nokia 2 years of Android security updates

The front of the G21 features a large 6.5 inch IPS LCD panel with fast 90Hz refresh rate. With a 720 x 1600 pixels resolution, ppi is relatively low at 270, but is more than respectable for a phone within this price range.

On the back, there’s a generous 50 MP triple camera setup with Nokia’s proprietary ‘AI Imaging’ tech, featuring a 50 MP wide camera, 2 MP depth and 2 MP macro lens.

Unfortunately, there's still no 5G connectivity, meaning you'll have to make do with 4G speeds. However, we can't really complain given this is an extremely low cost device.

Nokia promises 2 years of Android updates and twice as many security updates compared to their competitors. Whether security updates will surpass 2 years has not been disclosed.

The Nokia G21 is on sale today from £149. Make sure to find a cheap SIM only deal to pair with your Nokia G21.
