By Adrian Vincent - 20 Feb 2022, 18:12 Motorola Frontier leak reveals a phone with a massive camera sensor

A new leak shows full renders and details of Motorola’s upcoming flagship, the Motorola Frontier.

The huge sensor hints at a phone aimed primarily for photography enthusiasts. The camera will be powered by Samsung’s latest ISOCELL HP1 module, with a 200MP 1/1.5-inch sensor. The ISOCELL HP1 can shoot both 8K and 4K video, with 4K slow motion at 120fps. Samsung also claims the large sensor excels when it comes to low light shots. So far, there hasn’t been any official announcements for phones that will use the ISOCELL HP1, however there have been rumours that the upcoming flagship from Xiaomi will feature a 200MP sensor.

In addition to the main 200MP camera, there will also be a 50 MP ultra-wide camera and 12 MP telephoto camera, both using Sony modules. The front selfie camera will use the same 60 MP sensor from the upcoming Motorola Edge 30 Pro.

The Motorola Frontier will also be one of the fastest charging phones available, with wired charging at 125W. Reports tell us there will be wireless charging up to 50W.

As for the processor, the Motorola Frontier will follow the trend of using Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, as featured with the latest Samsung Galaxy S22.

The front will feature a 6.67 inch FullHD+ OLED screen that blends in with the sides of the phone. The fresh rate is also reported to be higher than most flagship phones at 144Hz.

Internal storage will come in two variants - 128GB and 256GB. Memory hasn’t been finalised, but 8GB and 12GB models are currently being tested.

The new strategy from Motorola appears to be shifting towards flagship and niche phones with high specifications.

The news follows recent details of the upcoming Motorola Edge 30 Pro, expected to land in the UK within the coming weeks.
