Although yet to be revealed by Google, we’re well aware of the budget Pixel 6a, with several leaks over the past few months to give us an idea of what to expect.

Now, the Google Pixel 6a has now popped up in Geekbeck 5, as the previously reported code model ‘bluejay’, revealing the same Tensor chip as used with the Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro.

Google Pixel 6a Geekbench 5 System Information

The benchmark shows an octa-core chip, with dual 2.80 GHz Cortex-X1, dual 2.25 GHz Cortex-A76 and quad 1.80 GHz Cortex-A55. This is identical to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, right down to the clock speeds.

With a 1050 single-core score and 2833 multi-core score, it also shows real world performance will be identical, despite the expected lower price tag.

However, the RAM will be reduced to 6GB, which is 2GB less than the Pixel 6 (8GB) and half that of the Pixel 6 Pro (12GB). This is still more than enough for most people, and is actually the same amount as used with the Apple iPhone 13 Pro (the regular Apple iPhone 13 only has 4GB memory).

Previous leaks have revealed an almost identical looking phone, but slightly smaller, with a 6.2 inch OLED display and 152.2mm x 71.8mm x 8.7mm dimensions.

Jon Prosser, a well regarded tech leaker, recently stated the Google Pixel 6a has been delayed due to the ongoing chip shortage. The phone was originally set to be unveiled alongside the Pixel Watch in May at Google IO, but has now been moved to July. We’re not sure if Google will hold a separate event for the unveiling, or rather issue a simple press release.

The delay may increase the chances of Google changing the design or specifications due to the supply chain issues. However, July is just over 3 months away, so any potential changes are likely to be minor.
