Asda Mobile now offer 12 and 24 month SIM only contracts

Asda Mobile, an MVNO which providers 99% UK coverage using the Vodafone network, will now offer 12 and 24 month SIM only contracts.

The new SIM only contracts are priced from £5 to £24 per month, with data ranging from 3GB to unlimited.

Like their pay as you go plans, the new contract plans will also include speed limits. All plans priced £18 and below will include a 150 Mbps speed limit. Despite the limit, independent tests have shown that Vodafone's 5G speeds hover around the 150 Mbps mark, so customers are unlikely to notice a speed cap regardless.

The speed limit for unlimited data contracts, priced £19 and up, will vary depending on price and contract length. Options include 2 Mbps, 5 Mbps and 150 Mbps speed limits.

Customers purchasing a new SIM only contract can get money back with Asda Rewards Cashpot, which can be used towards groceries in-store or online. 24 month plans will be entitled to 5% of the monthly bill each month, and 12 month plans will get 2%.

Asda Mobile are also introducing data rollover, exclusively for the new SIM only contracts. Any unused data, with no limit on the amount, will automatically be rolled over once to the following month, giving you a second chance to use it.

Unlike most networks, Asda Mobile will allow their SIM only contract customers to upgrade their plan at any time. For example, if you realise you're running out of data every month, you can upgrade to a plan which has more data, even if your contract has not yet come to an end. However, you won't be able to downgrade to a cheaper plan, unless you previously upgraded - for example, if you initially took out a £5 per month contract, then decided to upgrade mid-contract to a £10 plan, you can downgrade again, but it cannot be lower than the original £5 contract.

The length of the contract, however, cannot be changed, so customers must commit for the entire duration, or risk paying an early termination fee.

Customers can also choose to sign up for a SIM only contract when purchasing a mobile phone. If you don’t want to pay the full price of the phone upfront, the cost can be spread separately for 4, 12 or 24 months, with 0% interest. Note that this is a separate agreement provided by PayPal Credit.

Asda Mobile will still continue to offer their pay as you go plans, which are essentially 1 month rolling plans. In addition, free SIM cards will still be available, which can be used with PAYG rates when topped up with credit.

Similar to their 30 day and pay as you go plans, the new SIM only contracts will also be eligible for free EU roaming, up to 5GB per month.
