We’re amazed at how Motorola have managed to squeeze in the latest tech into the Moto G22, and keep the phone at under £200.
With an impressive quad camera, large 5000mAh battery and premium design, the Moto G22 is the budget phone to beat in 2022.
Design
Unlike most budget phones, the Moto G22 has a very premium design, with minimal bezels around the front of the display.
The rear of the phone has a gorgeous metallic finish, which produces a reflective surface that is generally only seen with more premium Android phones.
Despite the quad cameras, the camera bump is inconspicuous and sleek, with a simple design.
Display
The Moto G22 has a large 6.5 inch IPS LCD display, with Max Vision technology capable of a fast 90 Hz refresh rate. Motorola claim the vibrant panel is ideal for games, movies and photos.
With a 720 x 1600 resolution, the display is fairly sharp with 720p at an ultra-wide aspect ratio. Pixel density is quite generous at 268 ppi.
At the top centre of the display, there’s a small round cutout for the selfie camera, without a notch. However, the bezels at the bottom of the display are larger than the other sides, producing an asymmetrical look.
Performance
With a mid-range Helio G37, the octa-core chip from MediaTek delivers fast everyday performance.
With 64GB internal storage and 4GB RAM, there’s plenty of memory for multitasking, allowing you to switch between multiple apps seamlessly.
Although the Moto G22 can play most games, as a budget phone, you may struggle to play at the highest quality settings.
Camera
The most impressive feature of the Moto G22 is the quad camera array. Despite its price, Motorola have somehow managed to squeeze in a huge 50 MP wide camera, with a 8 MP ultrawide camera, 2 MP macro camera and 2 MP depth camera.
Thanks to the large 50 MP sensor, Motorola claims the G22 can capture excellent low-light photos. The additional depth sensor can also produce great portrait shots, coupled with Motorola’s AI image processing.
On the front, there’s a single 16 MP wide camera, which is placed at the top centre of the display through a small round cutout.
Operating System
The Moto G22 will ship with Android 12 - the latest version of Android. Motorola’s experience is mostly unskinned, for a stock Android experience.
Battery life
Motorola have included a massive 5000mAh battery, which they claim can deliver up to 2 days of battery life with regular use.
With TurboPower technology, the Moto G22 has very fast charging speeds. However, there’s no charger in the box, so you’ll need to use an existing charger or purchase a new one.
Colours
The Moto G22 is available in 2 colours:
- Cosmic Black
- Iceberg Blue
