Sky Mobile roaming - International roaming with Sky Mobile explained
Roaming Passport from Sky Mobile allows you to use your regular allowance for free in 35 European destinations.
All Sky Mobile customers are automatically eligible for the free Roaming Passport.
With 10 selected countries outside the EU, you can buy the Roaming Passport Plus for £6 per 24 hours. You will be able to use your regular allowance in these 10 countries.
For all other countries, it’s possible to roam and use Sky Mobile, however you won’t have access to your regular allowance. Instead, you will have to pay separate roaming charges, which can be expensive.

Sky Mobile EU roaming - after Brexit
All Sky Mobile customers can roam for free in 35 EU and European destinations with Roaming Passport. You will be able to use your regular allowance, as if you were in the UK.
Despite Britain leaving the EU, Sky Mobile do not have any plans to introduce roaming charges within the EU.
Roaming Passport is automatically enabled when you visit one of the selected 35 European destinations.
You will be able to use your data as normal, and call and text to the UK and between the 35 European destinations covered by Roaming Passport.
If you run out of data, you can use any data you may have in your Sky Piggybank with data rollover. You can also purchase a data add-on or use an existing data add-on.
Sky Mobile do not have a fair usage policy on the amount of data you can use. If you have an unlimited data plan, you can use as much data as you like without restrictions.
With Roaming Passport, you can use your Sky Mobile allowance within the following 35 EU and European destinations:
- Azores (Portugal)
- Canary Islands
- Cyprus (excluding Northern Cyprus)
- Czech Republic
- Ireland (Republic of)
- Madeira (Portugal)
Sky Mobile Roaming Passport Plus
Roaming Passport Plus allows you to use your allowance in 10 worldwide countries, outside the EU.
It costs £6 and lasts for 24 hours.
You can also use your data add-ons and any Sky Piggybank data allowances.
You can get the Roaming Passport Plus by visiting one of the 10 selected countries and by using one of the following services. You will automatically be charged £6:
- Use more than 10MB of data per day
- Make a call
- Send a text message
You cannot purchase more than £45 of data per month from Sky Mobile when roaming abroad, including Roaming Passport Plus. However, it’s possible to disable the roaming spend cap through your account’s settings.
If you don’t want a Roaming Passport Plus, you should disable data roaming in your phone’s settings and also make sure to not make any calls or send any texts. You will still be able to connect to free Wi-Fi, if available.
Roaming Passport Plus is available in the following 10 destinations:
- Hong Kong
- New Zealand
- South Africa
Can I roam outside the EU with Sky Mobile?
You can roam in most countries outside the EU with Sky Mobile.
If the country you are visiting is not covered by Roaming Passport or Roaming Passport Plus, you will be charged at an out of tariff rate, which varies depending on the country you are visiting.
The most you can be charged in a monthly billing cycle is £45. You can disable the roaming spend cap through your account’s settings.
The following tables show the roaming charges for all worldwide countries, where Sky Mobile is available.
Sky Mobile add-ons when roaming
If you’re in a Roaming Passport or Roaming Passport Plus destination, you can purchase data add-ons and use existing data add-ons, as if you were at home.
You can purchase a 1GB data add-on for £6 via your Sky Mobile account. The data add-on will last until the start of your next monthly billing cycle.
You can have a maximum of 5 add-ons at one given time per account.
You can also use any data you have collected from your Sky Piggybank.
You won’t be charged to use your add-ons if you’re in a qualifying Roaming Passport destination.
If you’re in a Roaming Passport Plus destination, you will automatically be charged £6 per 24 hours in order to use your regular allowance, and add-on allowances.
Does Sky Mobile have a fair usage policy when roaming?
Sky Mobile do not have a fair usage policy when roaming outside the UK.
You can use as much data as your allowance gives you, without any cap or speed restrictions.
However, you must be in a Roaming Passport or Roaming Passport Plus destination to use your allowance.
Can I get 5G speeds when roaming with Sky Mobile?
Currently, 5G with Sky Mobile is only available within the UK.
You can only receive 4G and 3G when roaming internationally with Sky Mobile.
Can I roam for free in the EU with Sky Mobile?
Yes, all Sky Mobile customers can use their regular allowance for free with Roaming Passport, covering 30 EU and European countries.
How can I setup my phone to roam with Sky Mobile?
Before roaming with Sky Mobile, you must enable roaming in your phone’s settings.
For Android users:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Connections -> Mobile networks -> Roaming
- Enable Data roaming
For iPhone users:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Mobile data -> Mobile Data Options
- Enable Data Roaming
Will I be charged if I go over my allowance when roaming with Sky Mobile?
If you're within an EU or Roaming Passport destination and you go over your Sky Mobile allowance, you will be charged at the same rate as if you were in the UK.
Can I tether to another device when roaming with Sky Mobile?
Yes, you can tether to as many devices as you like when roaming with Sky Mobile. Any regular data limitations that apply when using your phone will also apply to tethering.
