From 3rd May 2022, roaming in the EU with Sky Mobile will no longer be free. You will have to pay £2 per day for the Roaming Passport Plus to continue to use your allowance, covering most EU destinations and 11 countries outside the EU.

For all other countries, it’s possible to roam and use Sky Mobile, however you won’t have access to your regular allowance. Instead, you will have to pay separate roaming charges, which can be expensive.

From 3rd May 2022, roaming in the EU with Sky Mobile will no longer be free, and Roaming Passport will be discontinued. Instead, you will have to pay £2 per day for the Roaming Passport Plus, which works in 55 destinations, including most EU destinations and 11 countries outside the EU.

You will automatically be charged this amount when visiting a qualifying destination.

You will be able to use your data as normal, and call and text to the UK and between the 55 destinations covered by Roaming Passport Plus.

If you run out of data, you can use any data you may have in your Sky Piggybank with data rollover. You can also purchase a data add-on or use an existing data add-on.

Sky Mobile do not have a fair usage policy on the amount of data you can use. If you have an unlimited data plan, you can use as much data as you like without restrictions. However, you cannot use Sky services outside of the UK for extended periods.

However, roaming will continue to be free in Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.

Sky Mobile Roaming Passport Plus

Roaming Passport Plus allows you to use your allowance in 55 destinations, including 11 countries outside the EU.

Roaming Passport Plus will cost £2 for 24 hours.

You can also use your data add-ons and any Sky Piggybank data allowances.

You will automatically be charged for the Roaming Passport Plus when visiting one of the 55 destinations and by using one of the following services:

  • Use more than 10MB of data per day
  • Make a call
  • Send a text message

The maximum Sky will charge you for data when roaming is capped at £45 per month, including automatic Roaming Passport Plus charges. However, it’s possible to disable the roaming spend cap through your account’s settings.

If you don’t want a Roaming Passport Plus, you should disable data roaming in your phone’s settings and also make sure to not make any calls or send any texts. You will still be able to connect to free Wi-Fi, if available.

Can I roam outside the EU with Sky Mobile?

You can roam in most countries outside the EU with Sky Mobile.

If the country you are visiting is not covered by Roaming Passport Plus, you will be charged at an out of tariff rate, which varies depending on the country you are visiting.

The most you can be charged in a monthly billing cycle is £45. You can disable the roaming spend cap through your account’s settings.

Sky Mobile add-ons when roaming

If you’re in a Roaming Passport Plus destination, you can purchase data add-ons and use existing data add-ons, as if you were at home.

However, you must continue to pay for Roaming Passport Plus, which costs £2 per 24 hours.

You can purchase a 1GB data add-on for £6 via your Sky Mobile account. The data add-on will last until the start of your next monthly billing cycle.

You can have a maximum of 5 add-ons at one given time per account.

You can also use any data you have collected from your Sky Piggybank.

Does Sky Mobile have a fair usage policy when roaming?

Sky Mobile do not have a fair usage policy on the amount of data you can use when roaming.

You can use all the data up to your allowance, without any cap or speed restrictions.

However, you cannot use Sky services outside of the UK for extended periods.

Can I get 5G speeds when roaming with Sky Mobile?

Currently, 5G with Sky Mobile is only available within the UK.

You can only receive 4G and 3G when roaming internationally with Sky Mobile.

Will I be charged if I go over my allowance when roaming with Sky Mobile?

If you're within a Roaming Passport Plus destination and you go over your Sky Mobile allowance, you will be charged at the same rate as if you were in the UK.

Can I tether to another device when roaming with Sky Mobile?

Yes, you can tether to as many devices as you like when roaming with Sky Mobile. Any regular data limitations that apply when using your phone will also apply to tethering.
