Plusnet roaming explained for international & EU countries

You can roam in most countries around the world with a Plusnet SIM.

With Roam Like at Home, you can use your regular Plusnet allowance and any bolt-ons you have purchased for free within 52 European destinations.

For all other countries, you can use Plusnet when roaming, however you won’t be able to use your regular allowance. Instead, you will be charged at an out of plan rate.

Countries are grouped into zones, which destermins the rate you pay when roaming abroad.

Plusnet EU roaming - after Brexit

Currently, Plusnet do not charge in order to use your allowance when roaming within the EU.

With Roam Like at Home, you can use your Plusnet allowance for free within 52 European destinations.

Roam Like at Home is available with all Plusnet mobile plans.

You can use any data, texts and minutes within your allowance. You can also use your allowance from any bolt-ons that you may have purchased.

When in a Roam Like at Home destination, you can also call and text to other Roam Like at Home destinations and back to the UK, using your regular allowance.

If you exceed your regular allowance, you will be charged at the same out of plan rate as if you were in the UK, until your allowances reset at the next billing cycle.

As stated in the fair usage policy, you cannot use more than 15GB data from your regular allowance. This even applies to Plusnet plans with a data allowance greater than 15GB.

If you go over your data allowance or exceed the data fair usage policy, you will have to pay a surcharge at 10p per MB. Alternatively, you can purchase a bolt-on for additional data.

When roaming, the maximum Plusnet will automatically charge you is £45 per month. You can remove this cap by contacting Plusnet.

Plusnet bolt-ons for EU roaming

If you exceed your regular Plusnet allowance when roaming in a Roam Like at Home destination, you can buy a bolt-on for additional allowances.

You can also use a bolt-on if you exceed the 15GB fair usage policy.

A bolt-on will usually work out cheaper compared to out of plan charges for data. It will give you additional allowances on top of your regular allowance.

A bolt-on will work within the UK and in all Roam Like at Home European destinations.

Bolt-ons will automatically expire at the start of your next billing cycle. Any remaining bolt-on allowances will not be carried on to the next month.

Does Plusnet have a fair usage policy when roaming?

Yes, Plusnet have a fair usage policy for the amount of data you can use when roaming within the EU (Roam Like at Home), and for how long you can remain outside the UK for consecutive periods.

If your plan has an allowance greater than 15GB, the maximum amount of data you can use when roaming within the EU or Roam Like at Home destinations is 15GB.

As you approach the 15GB limit, you will receive a warning via text message.

After you reach the 15GB limit, any additional data you use while remaining outside the UK will be charged at 10p per MB, unless you purchase a data add-on.

Your 15GB allowance will automatically reset at the start of your next billing cycle.

In addition to the data fair usage policy, you must be considered a permanent UK resident.

If over a 4 month period, you use your allowance excessively in a Roam Like at Home destination, you will be considered breaking the fair usage policy.

If Plusnet believe this to be the case, you will receive a text message with further information. You will be expected to reply within 2 weeks to explain your situation, or face an additional surcharge to use Plusnet services. Continued abuse may see you SIM being terminated.

Can I roam outside the EU with Plusnet?

You can roam in most worldwide countries outside the EU or outside Roam Like at Home destinations, however you won’t be able to use your regular Plusnet allowance.

Instead, you will be charged at an out of plan rate, which varies, depending on the destination you are in.
