Tesco Mobile customer base swells to 5.5 million following impressive 2023 growth

Tesco Mobile have announced that they added an impressive 200,000 new pay monthly contract sign ups in 2023, increasing its total market share by 12% over the previous year.

The achievement also means Tesco Mobile have retained their status as the UK’s largest MVNO, with a total of 5.5 million customers under their belt.

In addition to increasing their subscriber base, Tesco Mobile also said they have reduced their turnover rate, which basically means more customers are renewing their contracts instead of leaving after their contracts come to an end.

Tesco Mobile have attributed their growth numbers to Clubcard Price offers and free EU roaming. Customers who sign up to select Clubcard Price plans will not see any mid-contract price increases for the duration of their contract. In addition, all plans include free EU roaming until 2025, which lets customers use their allowances in 48 European destinations.

The news follows the recent partnership renewal with O2, ensuring that O2 will continue to power Tesco Mobile's network across the UK for an additional decade. Founded 20 years ago, Tesco Mobile emerged from a joint venture between Tesco and Telefónica UK (now Virgin Media O2 following a merger), with both entities holding an equal 50% stake in the company.
